Las Vegas has hit a busy stretch of its 2026 sports calendar. On Sunday, Oct. 4, the NASCAR Cup Series brought its South Point 400 playoff race to Las Vegas Motor Speedway, while the Raiders hosted the Kansas City Chiefs at Allegiant Stadium. The calendar now turns to a run of Golden Knights home games, the Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix in November and the National Finals Rodeo in December.
That makes October a strong snapshot of the city’s sports year: two major events landed on the same day, and more are coming. It is not one continuous championship weekend, and several marquee events have already passed. But the handoff from the speedway to the arenas and stadiums keeps the local sports calendar moving.
October brought a NASCAR and football doubleheader
Two big events shared Oct. 4
The South Point 400 capped a NASCAR weekend at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, with the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series race scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 3, and the Cup Series playoff race on Sunday, Oct. 4. The speedway’s 2026 calendar also included a spring weekend, with the Pennzoil 400 on March 15. Las Vegas therefore hosted two NASCAR Cup Series weekends this year, not just one March kickoff.
On the same Sunday, the Las Vegas Raiders hosted Kansas City at Allegiant Stadium. The matchup put a football crowd at the south end of the Strip while race fans headed north to the speedway. Two different sports, two different venues, one full Las Vegas Sunday.
The overlap is the headline, not a claim that every major event is packed into October. The spring race, baseball, basketball and summer events filled earlier parts of the year. The closing stretch now has its own lineup, with hockey underway and two high-profile city fixtures still on the horizon.
What is still ahead on the 2026 calendar?
Golden Knights hockey fills the fall
The Vegas Golden Knights are into their 2026-27 NHL season. Their official schedule lists home games at T-Mobile Arena on Oct. 8 and 10, followed by more home dates later in the month. The full slate gives fans more chances to catch a game after the busy opening weekend. A playoff run, of course, depends on how the team performs over the season.
Earlier in the year, the Las Vegas Aces played their 2026 WNBA schedule, and the city hosted NBA Summer League from July 9 through 19 at the Thomas & Mack Center and the Pavilion. Those summer dates have passed, but they show how basketball takes its turn in the city’s sports relay before football and fall hockey become the main draws.
Baseball added another long season to the spring and summer calendar. The Las Vegas Aviators play at Las Vegas Ballpark in Summerlin, giving the valley a regular-season option beyond the speedway and major arenas. Their schedule is distinct from the one-off weekends that bring large visitor crowds, and it provides a steady local sports presence through baseball season.
Formula 1 and rodeo close the year
Formula 1 returns to the Strip from Nov. 19 to 21 for the Las Vegas Grand Prix. The official event schedule lists practice and qualifying before the Saturday night race on Nov. 21. With the circuit running through the Strip area, the Grand Prix is a major addition to the city calendar as the season moves toward its final month.
Then comes the Western sports finale. The Wrangler National Finals Rodeo is scheduled for Dec. 3 to 12 at the Thomas & Mack Center. Its ten nights of championship competition bring a different sound and crowd to town than a race weekend or an NFL game. The official Las Vegas visitor guide also highlights related events, including Cowboy Christmas.
A packed schedule, with dates to check
For fans, the practical play is to check the event or team schedule before making plans. Race weekends, league schedules and special events follow different calendars, and game times or postseason matchups can change. In particular, the Knights’ eventual playoff schedule cannot be known until the regular season plays out.
What is confirmed is a full year of sports across the valley: NASCAR at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in March and October, professional baseball and basketball during the warmer months, Raiders football and Golden Knights hockey in the fall, Formula 1 in November and the NFR in December. The Oct. 4 overlap showed just how much the calendar can stack up. The next turn belongs to the Knights, then the Strip gets its Grand Prix, and rodeo brings the year home.
