Las Vegas’ October Convention and Event Surge Is Starting Now

Las Vegas’ October 2026 event calendar includes major gaming and meetings trade shows, alongside other conventions and events around the city.

Las Vegas’ October convention season gets moving Sept. 28, when Global Gaming Expo opens at The Venetian Expo. The show runs through Oct. 1, then more conventions follow, including IMEX America at Mandalay Bay from Oct. 13-15. The dates put major business events on the calendar across several weeks, with different venues drawing attendees to different parts of the resort corridor.

There is one notable change for music fans: When We Were Young is not scheduled in Las Vegas in 2026. The festival’s organizers say they are taking the year off and plan to return in October 2027. So the October lineup is not the same as last year’s, even as the convention calendar starts filling the city’s event spaces.

For locals and visitors, the main takeaway is simple: check the event and venue before setting a tight cross-town schedule. The calendar is spread across late September and October, and a show at The Venetian is a different trip from one at Mandalay Bay. No single event determines how busy the entire valley will be, but the dates are useful to know before making plans.

G2E kicks off the October calendar

Global Gaming Expo, known as G2E, is scheduled for Sept. 28-Oct. 1 at The Venetian Expo. The event brings together professionals in the legal, regulated gaming industry, including operators, suppliers and technology providers. The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority’s convention calendar lists an estimated 25,000 attendees. That figure is an estimate, not a confirmed count of people who will attend this year.

G2E starts in September, but it runs through Oct. 1, placing it at the front edge of the month’s business-event schedule. The show’s official site describes its focus as the global legal and regulated gaming industry. For Las Vegas, that means several days of programming and exhibitor activity at The Venetian Expo, a convention venue connected to The Venetian Resort.

The dates also overlap with other events listed by the LVCVA. Its calendar includes Vet Together, scheduled for Oct. 1-3, and Smile Together, listed for Oct. 1-3 at the Las Vegas Convention Center. The same calendar lists the National Electrical Contractors Association’s convention for Oct. 4-7. Those listings put multiple trade events in the early-October mix, although estimates and schedules can change.

IMEX America follows at Mandalay Bay

IMEX America is scheduled for Oct. 13-15 at Mandalay Bay. The annual trade show serves the global meetings, events and incentive travel industry, bringing buyers and suppliers together for business, education and networking. Its official event site lists the 2026 dates and venue.

The organizer reported 17,633 total participants at the 2025 show, along with 3,700 exhibiting companies. Those are last year’s figures, not a forecast for 2026. The event describes itself as the largest trade show for the business events industry, and its 2026 program is scheduled for three days at Mandalay Bay.

G2E and IMEX America serve different industries and do not run on the same dates. G2E ends Oct. 1, while IMEX begins Oct. 13. Still, both bring professional events to major Strip-area convention venues within the same stretch of the calendar. Travelers attending either show should confirm their own event schedules and hotel location rather than assuming every convention is in the same place.

What the schedule means for getting around

Event dates are a planning signal, not a promise of gridlock. The public calendars do not establish exactly how much traffic each show will add or which roads will be busiest. A visitor going to The Venetian Expo, Mandalay Bay or the Convention Center should check directions for that specific venue and leave room for travel time, especially when appointments are close together.

For residents, the same practical rule applies before a pickup, dinner reservation or appointment near a large venue: check what is happening nearby and allow flexibility. A map can show distance. It cannot guarantee how quickly a ride will cross the Strip.

October’s entertainment calendar is different this year

When We Were Young is not part of Las Vegas’ 2026 October schedule. On its official website, the festival says it is taking 2026 off and will return to Las Vegas in October 2027. That rules out the festival as a source of event crowds this October, despite its place on last year’s calendar.

The distinction matters for anyone planning a trip around a festival date or expecting last year’s lineup to repeat. Las Vegas has conventions and other events on the October calendar, but the specific mix changes from year to year. Check the organizer’s current page before booking around an event name or date.

The month’s early schedule begins with G2E, continues with other trade events, and reaches IMEX America in the middle of October. It is a substantial calendar, but not a single citywide surge with one start time or one crowd pattern. In Las Vegas, the useful move is to know the date, know the venue and plan the trip between them.
